7 Most Beautiful Rose Gardens – Many people consider the rose the most beautiful flower of all. The rose is a symbol of love and passion. A dozen roses is often a gift someone gives to the person they love. If one or a dozen roses are so wonderful, imagine the beauty of an entire garden of roses. Some rose gardens are so beautiful, they attract visitors from all over the world.

Here are 7 of the most beautiful (and most fragrant) rose gardens in the country.

1. San Jose Municipal Rose Garden

Located in San Jose, California, this rose garden has been dubbed, “America’s Best Rose Garden.” And for good reason, as this 11-acre garden has more than 4,000 roses. Hundreds of volunteers throughout the Bay Area put in about 150 hours a week to keep the roses blooming year-round. The San Jose Municipal Rose Garden provides a wonderful backdrop for weddings, graduations, and family picnics. The garden was dedicated in 1937.

2. Dr. E.M. Mills Memorial Rose Garden

Even small rose gardens are quite bountiful. The Dr. E.M. Mills Memorial Rose Garden in Syracuse, New York, is only 2 acres but contains 3,550 roses. Located near Syracuse University, the rose garden features thousands of rose bushes and climbing roses on 10-foot arches. It was dedicated in 1924.

3. The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art Rose Garden

This rose garden was established in 1913 in Sarasota, Florida. The garden has 1,200 roses and takes up two-thirds of an acre on a 20-acre waterfront property. When visiting the rose garden, you will find the property also features an art museum, a historic mansion, and two circus museums. This location is also a favorite spot for weddings, receptions, corporate events, and film and video shoots.

4. Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden

From May to October, the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden is among the most popular destinations at the New York Botanical Garden. At this time, more than 650 varieties of roses are in peak bloom. The rose garden was originally designed in 1916. Today, it contains more than 4,000 roses. Considered one of the world’s best rose gardens, the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden is located in the Bronx, NYC.

5. White House Rose Garden

The wife of Theodore Roosevelt, First Lady Edith Roosevelt, established the first garden at the White House in 1902. In 1913, Ellen Louise Axson Wilson turned it into the White House Rose Garden. In 1961, during the presidency of John F. Kennedy, the White House Rose Garden was redesigned so that roses were the primary flowering plants in the garden. The garden borders the Oval Office and West Wing and measures 125 feet long and 60 feet wide. The White House Rose Garden serves as a stage for media events and receptions.

6. Longmont Memorial Rose Garden

At the West End of Roosevelt Park in Longmont, Colorado, you’ll find The Longmont Memorial Rose Garden. Planted in 1945, this rose garden is dedicated to veterans of all wars. The rose garden contains almost 2,000 rose bushes and represents 190 types of roses.

7. International Rose Test Gardens

It’s fitting that one of the country’s most beautiful rose gardens is located in Portland, which is also called the City of Roses. Established in 1917, the International Rose Test Gardens offers visitors a fantastic view of the city, as well as Mount Hood. The original intent of the garden was to preserve the species of European roses that might be decimated in the bombings of WWI. Today, it is the oldest public test rose garden in the country and is home to 7,000 rose bushes.
